Our fourth graders embark on an overnight adventure to Coloma in the picturesque Sierra Foothills, the historic site where James W. Marshall discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill, sparking the California Gold Rush. This immersive experience at the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School offers our students a hands-on, engaging journey into Gold Rush life. They build shelters, make cornbread, pan for gold, sing period songs, and listen to stories from a Native American presenter around the campfire. Additionally, they hike and explore the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park.

Our fifth graders attend an Outdoor Ed trip to Westminster Woods, a science-based camp nestled in the redwoods that complements their classroom learning with practical experiences. During this trip, students explore the forest and stream, collect specimens for microscopic study, and delve into redwood forest ecology, stream and watershed ecology, and biomimicry. They also have the exciting opportunity to tackle the challenge ropes course.
